Experience A Sleep Pod ! Mexico City Layover

My nomad adventure started with a

night at izZzleep! That’s a pod hotel conveniently located in Terminal 1 Mexico City Airport; the same terminal my flight to Guayaquil departed from very early the next morning. The sleep capsule made more sense than a standard hotel room considering that, with a 2:00a flight check-in, I would only get about 3 hours of sleep.

Locker Room

At check-in, guests are provided a key card that gives access to both a locker and assigned sleep pod. In addition, you get a pair of socks, ear plugs, and remote control for the pod’s TV.  In the locker room luggage and shoes are stored before entering the sleep pod room. The locker room is located between two sleeping pod wings each with 20 private capsules.

izZzleep lockers are clearly not designed for those with more than carry-on luggage; there was just enough room for my roll-aboard and backpack.  My guess is that those with more to store use paid lockers in the terminal.  The showers and toilets are spotlessly clean. You definitely feel like you’re entering a different dimension when you slip into the sleeping pod wing; very low light and silent as a, dare I say… tomb?

I was going to eat in the food court, but that seemed a bit more hobo than nomad for the occasion; especially after witnessing a diaper change on one of the tables there, LOL!  I decided to treat myself to a ‘tablecloth’ meal to kick off my first official night as a Bronze Nomad! La Mansion provided a more ideal dining experience.

Squash Blossom Soup was EXCELLENT; another bowl could have made a satisfying meal for me! Grilled Huachinango (Red Snapper) was tasty, especially with buttered capers sauce; whipped potatoes and mixed grilled vegetables completed the meal.

Back in my sleep pod I practice español by watching children’s animation with Spanish subtitles and the English audio off; just my level with the language at this point :-|)

When it’s time to sleep the lighting choices vary from full light, blue, dark with low lights at the control panels and also total black out. At approximately $40 per night for a pod that intimately fits up to two average size adults, izZzleep pods are comfortable, clean, and efficient; a good option for a layover stay. You can take a virtual tour before saying, “Good Night!”
